I promise a return to regular posting and what happens? Nothing at all, for which I apologize.

All is well up here in Chambana. It’s hard to believe, but I’m already almost halfway through the semester, and those major projects that were looming in the distance a month ago are almost on top of me. One in particular should be a lot of fun — a group from my Metadata class will be working with the folks at the local NPR affiliate to evaluate various metadata standards that they might use to organize and track their digital assets and archived programs. With all the different formats they have to keep track of (MP3 files for podcasts, streaming audio files and high-resolution source files), the system they’re using now isn’t getting the job done. After talking with the station’s Online Director, we’ll each receive four items, each of which we’ll have to catalog using three different schemes. After that, we’ll get together and evaluate our results as a group and develop a recommendation. Like I said, it’s going to be a blast…if you’re an aspiring metadata librarian with a bent for cataloging. Which I am.

Elsewhere, I’ve discovered a fantastic German restaurant, the Bayern Stube, tucked away in tiny Gibson City. Good thing it’s where it is too, I’d be there a lot more often if it weren’t a 45 minute drive.

And finally, I’ve been slowly posting photos of my December trip to China over at Flickr. I wish I’d known how beautiful Xiamen was — I would have visited a long time ago if I had.

Questions? Feel free to post them in the comments thread (as long as you’re not trying to sell Cialis or some other grey market pharmaceutical).

It’s true - I spend most of my time either at the main library or… well, the main library. Though Grainger’s going to be getting more of my time too. I’m only really in the GSLIS building on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Bayern Stube is AWESOME! That’s my yearly birthday restaurant. Definitely worth the drive (every once in awhile)!

It was soooooooooooooooo good. I was showing some pictures to a coworker this morning and I was just about ready to hop in the car and head right back. The funny thing is, until this weekend, the last three times I’d had German food were in Shanghai (once) and Suzhou (twice). The Chinese love German sausage!
