Identity crisis
Published July 22nd, 2004 in UncategorizedA kind reader wonders in comments when I’m going to start posting again. I’ve been trying to answer that question myself, and I guess now is as good a time as any. For the 15 months that I was in Beijing, China was pretty much the only thing I posted about. I didn’t post about work, I didn’t post about politics (at least not that often), and I didn’t muse on the details of my personal life. I don’t intend to start now that I’m back in St. Louis, which means that I have to find another organizing principle for this site. There are a couple of possibilities: I’m trying to pull together an application to UIUC’s Library and Information Sciences graduate program, and if accepted I’m sure I’ll have plenty of material to draw upon. I also might just make this a “St. Louis blog,” focusing on the city’s built environment. That takes time and energy though, neither of which I can devote to getting out and tramping around neighborhoods at the moment. So… until things are more settled, postings are going to be infrequent. I do want to build a new gallery for random images from my time in China, but who knows when I’ll get around to it.
Oh yeah, after two and a half weeks back in St. Louis, I’m right back in the swing of things. St. Louis doesn’t change that fast, so there’s not that much new to assimilate, but even so there’s been far less culture shock than I’d expected. I still have a lot to do, including buying a used car, getting into the aforementioned library sciences program, and finding a source of income. But lack of money is a great motivator, so I expect to have things in order soon. And as I keep telling my friends, it really is good to be back.
