Not scenic, but interesting

My way to the office in the morning isn’t exactly the prettiest in Beijing — lots of concrete, lots of construction and dusty sidewalks — but it’s interesting in its own way. This morning it was the bus stop that’s being reconfigured, where workers were moving pre-fab office blocks from one spot to another. Usually they just tear the building apart and recycle the bricks, which makes me wonder why they’d bother with the expense of renting the crane.

The best thing about walking to work? Jianbing for breakfast, far and away. My local shop isn’t exactly clean, but clean enough I guess. And man, do they whip up a tasty jianbing. A thin rice flour pancake, an egg, cilantro, onions, sunflower seeds and a thin piece of fried wheat pastry. Damn.

You can get warm soy milk there too, but I usually wait until I get to the office, where’ there’s a hot pot of coffee waiting for me.
