I voted, originally uploaded by Oldtasty.
My first vote in California. The polling place in my little suburban community was busy but not crowded. My sister wrote in an email this morning, “I love voting” and I completely agree. California may be all in for Obama (me too), but there are plenty of state and local issues I was happy to weigh in on as well. Wooo, democracy!

Me and mom, originally uploaded by Oldtasty.
My mom’s my most loyal reader, so I can’t imagine a better place to post my birthday wishes (though admittedly it’s a little late in the day).
41 years ago today, my mom celebrated her birthday in Deaconess Hospital, recovering from delivering a bouncing baby boy. Every day, I’m grateful for everything she’s done and who she is; I can’t imagine a better mom in the world. So happy birthday, and wishes for many, many more. Wish I could be there…

I came across this Peanuts panel over the weekend in a post on the WFMU blog touting their upcoming record fair. I LOVED Peanuts when I was a kid (a strip which from an adult perspective has a healthy dose of melancholia and fatalism that didn’t really register at the time), and was/am an avid record collector. However, I never put the two together until now. There are definitely worse things one could do when feeling down than picking up an LP at the local record store.
(And no need to worry, my state of mind is just fine.)

I’m alive and well, and while I’m not posting much here, I’m still uploading pictures to Flickr and tracking my listening habits on Last.fm. Oh yeah, I’m on Facebook from time to time. And twittering a bit, though mostly I use it to vent.
(As proof that I’m still alive, here’s what I’m listening to in real-time.) —>
Hi.
And if you haven’t seen it, Funky16Corners is one of the best music blogs out there. More scratchy funk, soul and R&B than you can fit on your hard drive. Don’t know how he finds the time to do it, but more power to him, he’s serving the greater good ![]()

41 years ago, the United States Supreme Court declared any law restricting marriage between races unconstitutional. This includes a law that was on the books in Missouri prohibiting marriage between whites and anyone of Asian descent.
How things have changed.

New bike, originally uploaded by Oldtasty.
Did a test ride to the office yesterday, and rode in again this morning via the Stevens Creek Trail. Gas is up to $4.08/gallon out here, and I need the exercise anyway. But really, it’s just nice to be back on two wheels again.
